Troubador 1981-1982

It was amazing that four teenage boys with Sony Walkmans in their ears and stars in their eyes from the same high school (Henderson County High) could have so much talent and musical abilities. Even their parents knew they had something special...
~Sam Rogers

The story of Troubador began during my junior year in high school when I met Mark Haffner (our keyboard player), who was a sophomore at the time. He was friends with Don Carr (who became our guitar player) and he was friends with Randy Wilkerson (the bassist for the band). The four of us got together as the first incarnation of the band. During the first year, I played drums for the band. Which can be heard on two of our recordings – “A Dream in the Making” and “The Sky's the Limit”. After our first year together, a decision was made that I really needed to be the "front man”, which left us looking for a drummer. Don knew Mike Lacey, who was an awesome percussionist from a different high school, and then he was brought on board to play the drums. During the two years we spent together, we won contests, obtained radio airplay, recorded six songs in a professional studio, had a song included in a composition album “Home Cookin” and performed in places that we were too young to legally go to if we had not been the entertainment. This all took place in 1981-1982, when there was no internet, no digital downloads and no social networking. We were an impressive group with clear musical talent with an amazing ability to appeal to every crowd. After a great run and some fantastic times, we finally broke up to go our separate ways leaving that small town where we met, grew up, made lasting memories together in Henderson, Kentucky.

Today all of the members are still in the music business.

Mark Haffner: (who played keyboards), and wrote most of the songs for Troubador), continues to have a jam packed music career and can be found at www.markhaffner.com.

Don Carr: (our guitarist for the band), has been playing lead guitar for "The Oakridge Boys" for the last twenty years.

Randy Wilkerson: (our bass player), chose a rewarding career as a music educator.

Mike Lacey: (who played the drums), gigs constantly with the 'big names’.
